A Note From Richard Strauss |
|
It’s been a few months since we’ve had the opportunity
to bring to you the RadioLand Report. As usual, we are
excited to bring you the latest insight into radio and
the tools available to embrace its power.
In this issue, you’ll hear from Robert Garcia, who joins
our firm as Managing Director. Robert previously served
as VP and General Manager of CNNRadio, successfully
guiding a staff of some 45 news personnel. Robert is
extremely well respected in the news industry, is a past
president of the Radio-Television News Directors
Association, speaks fluent Spanish, and is an absolute
welcome and vital addition to our growing team. Welcome
aboard, Robert!
Additionally, in this month’s issue, you’ll be able to
read about an exciting new radio tour service we provide
called the “Radio Tour Plus,” about the nuances of radio
promotions, and the effective use of soundbites.
On the political front, as the summer progresses, the
presidential contest certainly is heating up. Don’t
forget about using radio to help communicate your
message during the Democratic National Convention which
takes place the last week of July in Boston and the
Republican Convention taking place in New York at the end
of August. We’ll be happy to discuss with you the many
radio outreach options surrounding these major events.
As always, if there’s ever anything I can do to
personally assist you with any of your radio outreach
efforts, please don’t hesitate to give me a call. Of
course, any one of our talented and dedicated staff is
always available to answer any of your questions.
Have a safe and wonderful start to your summer and we
look forward to continuing to work with you!

Delivering Marquee Services |
|
By Jason Cohen
Over the course of the last two years, Strauss Radio
Strategies has taken steps to develop a solution that
enhances, simplifies, and streamlines radio tours for
our clients. We’ve taken the frustration out of trying
to get a tape of a radio interview weeks after it’s
happened. Gone with that are also the days of your
spokesperson being frustrated calling a newsroom and
learning that they have “never heard” of their interview
(because the person the interview was originally booked
with didn’t pass on the information to the interviewer.)
To avoid these problems for our clients, we have
designed the Radio Tour PLUS.

Caller Number Six Wins! |
|
By Jennifer McLellan
Radio stations wouldn’t exist without their faithful
listeners. So, many stations like to thank their
faithful with giveaways in the form of concert tickets,
products, cars, trips, prizes, gift certificates and
money. The basic rule here is: if it’s free to the
station then they’ll take the promotion and since it’s
free to the listener, they’ll have no problem giving it
away. Radio promotions are fun, but for them to work,
each one must have it’s own set of strategies and rules.

Talking in Soundbites |
|
By Jason Cohen
The 2004 presidential campaign is well underway and
congressional races will certainly heat up shortly. As
the candidates hit the campaign trail to make speech
after speech, they’ll work to define their messages,
rally their supporters and talk in soundbites. We’ve all
heard them – those 5 to 15 second statements that radio
and television news reports use over and over. Perhaps
this year’s most famous sound bite was former
presidential candidate Howard Dean’s screech when he was
talking to his supporters in Iowa.
