Lighter
is faster. This is why, with the new BMW M3 GTS, developers have
dispensed with everything that could even come close to being
detrimental to its motorsport performance.
The
rear bench, air conditioning, the sound system - everything had to
be left out. The result was a lightweight, extreme sports car,
weighing less than 1500 kilograms unloaded and not even taking
four seconds to accelerate from zero to a speed of 100.
The
M3 GTS is exclusively hand-built to order by BMW M GmbH, offered
and manufactured to meet customer requirements as a perfectly
harmonized package of measures. It is based on the already sporty
BMW M3 Coupe, with its V8 engine.
For
the extreme sports car, the engineers at M division have increased
the engine capacity to 4.4 liters and improved performance to
around 450 bhp. A feature of the high-speed power train is the
impressively vehement and most importantly, consistent surge of
power that is continuously pushed out over a wide range of engine
speeds.
To
make this vehicle performance equally commanding on the road, the
BMW M3 GTS has a chassis fit for motor racing and its dynamic
stability control (DSC) has been specifically tuned to take into
account the heightened dynamic potential of the car.
The
high-performance brake system features fixed calipers and
comprises six pistons on the front and four pistons on the rear
wheels.
The
conspicuous rear wing, familiar to us from the BMW 320si as used
for the WTCC World Touring Car Championship, makes the M3 GTS unmistakable.

Just
like the variable air deflectors of the striking front apron, this
is adjustable and can, for example, be customized to a specific
track profile. Neither does the interior leave any room for doubt
about the motor racing ambitions of the GTS.

There
are classic bucket seats, carbon interior trim and an M steering
wheel covered in Alcantara. The door and side panels at the rear
also come in this elegant, microfiber material. The interior
fitments are rounded off by the inclusion of six-point seat-belts,
a fire extinguisher and the emergency cut-out preparation usually
found in motorsport.
The
first models will be going to German enthusiasts this summer, with
additional models slated for other countries later in the year.
